Understanding your bill

Your electricity charge is built up slab by slab: the first 100 units at one rate, the next 100 at a higher rate, and so on. On top of the energy cost come government items — GST, electricity duty, the PTV licence fee, a financing-cost surcharge and a monthly fuel-price adjustment (FPA). “Protected” consumers who stay under 200 units for six straight months get cheaper rates.
